About the locality:
Bulgarians settled here in 1806–1814 and 1828–1834 (Roman, L. 1984: 136). According to data from various sources forty-five families from Sitovo, Silistra Region moved to the village in 1828 and by 1834 there were eighty-one families in total (329 persons) who had come from Ajdemir, Tatarica, Sitovo and Srebŭrna, Silistra Region (Романски, С. 1930: 31, 413–416). A document, shedding light on a tax-related conflict soon after settlement, has been published in Романски, С. 1930: 229–301 and Младенов, М., Б. Нягулов, Н. Жечев 1994: 37–38. The 1838 registry of the population records the presence of 115 “Serbian” households (Velichi, C. N. 1965: 113). Bulgarians from Ciocăneşti actively participated in the 1848 revolution (Velichi, C. N. 1971: 260). In 1892–1893 a group of residents moved to the nearby village Andolina. See also Милетич, Л. 1903: 28; Романски, С. 1918: 250. Младенов, М. 1994 contains the dialect texts from Ciocăneşti that present traditional wedding customs. Regarding the local history and traditions see Гарнизов, В. 1994.
