St. Peter and Paul; St. Nicholas (Marina Mikhaylova, 14.7.2012)

This village is located in an area of villages with Bulgarian population. It was inhabited by settlers stemming from different parts of Bulgaria: those from Ruse Region came from the villages Štrŭklevo and Černa voda, the latter of which ceased to exist when all its population moved to Romania; others originate from Sliven Region and/or Karnobat Region (Иречек, К. 1891: 508; Жечев, Н. 1983: 55: Младенов, М., Б. Нягулов, Н. Жечев 1994: 227). The village is mentioned in connection with its Bulgarian population in 1806–1814 and 1828–1834 (Roman, L. 1984: 138). The 1838 registry of the population records the presence of 125 “Serbian” households (Velichi, C. N. 1965: 113). At the end of the nineteenth century the population consisted of 1138 Bulgarians, who successfully preserved their traditional garb, customs and language, and whose main occupation was agriculture and stock-breeding (Alessandrescu, C. 1892: 114–115). G. Weigand who visited the village in 1899 provided similar statistics and later included the village in his atlas as a locality with Bulgarian population (Weigand, G. 1900: 119; Weigand, G. 1909: Map 67).
