About the locality:
The village was mentioned in connection with Bulgarian settlers in documents from 1806–1814 and 1828–1834 (Roman, L. 1984: 138). A document describing a conflict with the authorities in 1830 has been published in Романски, С. 1930: 212–213 and Младенов, М., Б. Нягулов, Н. Жечев 1994: 25–26. In 1834 forty-three Bulgarian families lived there (Романски, С. 1930: 425–427). The 1838 registry of the population records the presence of eighty-one “Serbian” households (Velichi, C. N. 1965: 113). Weigand and Miletič refer to the Bulgarian population of the village in their work (Weigand, G. 1900: 118; Милетич, Л. 1902: 138). When Weigand came to the village in 1899, he found there approximately 1500 Bulgarians and 150 Romanians. Later he included it in his atlas as a locality with Bulgarian population (Weigand, G. 1909: Map 67). Up until 1828 when most Bulgarians settled in the village, only Romanians used to live there. S. Romanski visited it in 1906 (Жечев, Н. 1983: 59–60). The village is inhabited by the descendants of settlers who came at different times from Razgrad Region (Karaarnaut, today Goljam izvor), Isperih Region (Hŭrsovo), Tutrakan Region (Malŭk Preslavec), Ruse Region as well as Thrace (Lahovari, G. I., C. I. Bratianu, G. Tocilescu 1898-1902 1: 22; Романски, С. 1930: 425–427; Велики, К. Н., В. Трайков 1980: 332, 369 etc.; Жечев, Н. 1983: 59–60; Младенов, М., Б. Нягулов, Н. Жечев 1994: 228–229). In 1942 a staff member of the Bulgarian embassy visited the village and recorded its advanced stage of integration in Romanian society (Младенов, М., Б. Нягулов, Н. Жечев 1994: 339).
