About the locality:
The village, under its current name Cernetul, has been documented in connection with Bulgarian settlers in 1806–1814 (
Roman, L. 1984: 142). The 1838 registry of the population records the presence of 32 “Serbian” households (
Velichi, C. N. 1965: 114). G. Weigand includes it as a locality with Bulgarian population in his atlas (
Weigand, G. 1909: Map 67). At the end of the 19th century only nineteen residents were registered as Bulgarian (
Lahovari, G. I., C. I. Bratianu, G. Tocilescu 1898-1902 1: 135), which is difficult to reconcile with the fact that in 1975 Bulgarian was still spoken in the village.
