Fieldwork in 1974 established that over 80% of residents were Bulgarian but were losing their understanding of the Bulgarian language. Bulgarian presence dates from 1806–1814 and 1828–1834 (Roman, L. 1984: 138). Twenty-nine Bulgarian families (89 persons) came in 1828, twenty-five families in 1830 and eight families (26 persons) from Razgrad in 1834 (Велики, К. Н., В. Трайков 1980: 158, 244; (Романски, С. 1930: 432). The 1838 registry of the population records the presence of 70 “Serbian” households (Velichi, C. N. 1965: 113). At the end of the nineteenth century the village had 890 residents, mainly Bulgarians of a traditional mindset, who were earning a living in agriculture and construction. It is claimed that Bulgarians have inhabited Plătăreşti since the mid fourteenth century (Alessandrescu, C. 1892: 307–308). G. Weigand included the village in his atlas as a locality with Bulgarian population (Weigand, G. 1909: Map 67).
