About the locality:
The locality is found on maps from 1700, 1722 and 1771 (Ceauşescu, A. 2008: 46, 47, 49). Its Bulgarian population was mentioned in connection with the migration of 1806–1814 (Roman, L. 1984: 134). According to data from an 1835 Russian map, the population of Băileşti-Sârbi amounted to 296 households and Băileşti-Români to 80 households (Ceauşescu, A. 2008: 51). The 1838 registry of the population records the presence of 169 “Serbian” households (Velichi, C. N. 1965: 111). Bulgarians from Băileşti actively participated in the 1848 revolution (Velichi, C. N. 1971: 258). In the nineteenth century some families moved to the villages Golenţi and Târnava. During his 1898 visit G. Weigand estimated that 3000 of the 6500 residents were Bulgarian and later included it in his atlas (Weigand, G. 1900: 117; Weigand, G. 1909: Map 67). During fieldwork in 1969 it was established that there were more than 500 Bulgarian families in Băileşti. These families had only come into closer contact with surrounding Romanians in the previous decades. According to local people, some of their ancestors were originally from Vidbol, Vidin Region.
